Elaine F. Johnston

Elaine F. (Young) Johnston, age 76 of Ridgebury Township, PA, was promoted to heaven on Wednesday December 11, 2018 at home. Elaine was born October 17, 1942 in Sayre daughter of the late Elmer R. & Cleora B. (Jelliff) Young. She was a 1960 graduate of SRU High School in East Smithfield, PA. She was married to Thomas W. Johnston and celebrated 57 years together. She was employed for many years as a Loan Officer by C & N Bank in East Smithfield, retiring in 2004 as an Assistant Vice President. Elaine found great joy in serving the Lord through her ministries at Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church, where she used her musical talent as pianist, organist and choir director. She’ll be long remembered for the Alleluia Choir which performed in many area churches in the 1970’s and culminated in a performance at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City. She had the gift of hospitality and brought joy to many people with her caring ways. In her spare time Elaine enjoyed camping, traveling, playing piano for Sunday Services at the Bradford County Manor and at the campground church services in Florida, making a mean potato salad but most of all spending time with those she loved.

Surviving are her loving husband Thomas W. Johnston of Ridgebury, PA, their beloved daughter Julie Johnston of Redding, CA, three sisters and their families, Janice (Gary) Cavanaugh of Gillett, PA, Marilyn (David) Mullican of Wyalusing, PA and Linda (Nathan) Morgan of Ulster, PA as well as a special aunt, Anne (Lee) Harkness of East Smithfield, PA. There are several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Family and friends are invited to call from 3 PM to 5 PM on Monday, December 17, 2018 at the Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church, 13255 Berwick Turnpike, Gillett, PA 16925. Her funeral service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5 PM with her Pastor Rob Wuethrich officiating. Interment will be in Hanlon Hill Cemetery when weather permits. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY 14894.
