Merle A. Kingsley, 66, of East Smithfield, PA, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2019 in the comfort of his home with his wife by his side. He was the loving husband of Gertrude (Campbell) Kingsley. The couple married August 24, 1974 and had 44 happy years together.
Merle was born November 16, 1952 in Sayre, PA, son of the late La Verne “Vern” and Joyce (Smith) Kingsley. He was a 1970 graduate of SRU and worked in the family logging business for 35 years and 15 years in his brother-in-law’s excavating business until he retired in 2016. He was a member of the Ridgebury Sportsmen’s Club. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Merle is survived by his wife Gertrude, children Loni (Marc) Wilson of Gillett, PA, and son Daryl (Jess) Kingsley of Ulster, PA, also three grandchildren Emmitt, Hanna, and Everett, his sister Nancy Russell of Lowman, NY, brother Martin (Jackie) Kingsley of East Smithfield, and his sister Norma (Tim) Leonard of Berrytown, PA, his special nephew Damon Leonard of Troy, PA, along with several other nieces and nephews. Merle was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends are welcome to call from 6:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY. The memorial service to honor Merle’s life will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 20th at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Robson officiating.
