Richard "Rick" Westrick Obituary

Richard (Rick) A. Westrick, age 70, passed away Saturday, November 28th, 2020 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Rick was born February 23rd, 1950 in Patton, PA, the son of the late Paul N. & Helen (Stolz) Westrick. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his son Richard (Richie) Westrick, Jr., grandson Troy Potrzebowski, granddaughter Hannah Putney, brother Paul Westrick and sister Margaret Adams.

He graduated from Cambria Heights High School, PA in 1968 and, upon graduating, moved to Elmira, NY where he began working at Thatcher (now Anchor) Glass.

He retired in 2014 from Anchor Glass after 46 years of work where he served as a machine repairman and an active member of the Glass Molders Union.

Over the years, he enjoyed hunting, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, sporting around in his Harley Davidson-themed Ford truck, watching the Dallas Cowboys win some and lose some, NASCAR, traveling, going for his daily breakfast outing at the Wellsburg Diner and spending time with his loving family.

Survivors include his companion, Carolyn Westrick of Elmira, three daughters, Krista (James Meehan) Putney of West Elmira, Michele Westrick of Elmira, Kimberly Westrick of Elmira, grandchildren Anthony Putney, Cullan Putney, Abigail Putney, Dorian Elston, and great-grandson Grayson Putney; siblings Mally (Patrick) Weakland of TX, Eugene Westrick of NY, Trisha Rock of OH, Diana Fogle of OH, Judy (Walter) Bailey of AZ, Cathy Meterns of PA, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

His mother, Helen, always said, “you’re one in a million, [Ricky],” and that he was. Rick was a hard working man, who had a huge heart and a sweet, generous soul. He was a wonderful father and a proud Papa. He will be terribly missed, but never forgotten. Cherish today, because tomorrow is never promised.

In tribute of Rick, pay it forward or do an act of kindness for someone.

Due to the pandemic’s in-place public health measures, funeral services will be private. He will be laid to rest at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home, Inc., 279 Main St, Wellsburg, NY 14894.

A celebration of his life by family and friends is tentatively planned for late spring 2021.
