Richard L. “Dick” Janowsky, 75, of Ridgebury, PA, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, December 29, 2014 from his home surrounded by his family.  He was the loving husband of Linda L. (Cragle) Janowsky.  The couple married November 12, 1966 and had 48 wonderful years together.

Dick was born on September 5, 1939 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Fritz W. and Grace I. (Wagner) Janowsky.  Growing up on the family farm Dick always had a passion for the land and farming it.  He was the first Co-Operative in Ridgebury Township to go into the Farm Program.  With Dick’s love of the land, he went into the Real Estate business.  He was a broker for Strout Realty for 21 years.  In those 21 years, Dick was always in the top 25 offices for sales out of 700 offices.  He ended his career with Strout to open his own business, Janowsky Realty.  He helped many in northern Bradford County sell and buy homes and land until his retirement in 2011.  Dick’s motto was always “Bringing People and Places Together”.

Dick was an avid hunter when he was younger, and enjoyed pigeon racing and won many trophies racing them.  Back in the 1970’s Dick was very active in Scouting, serving as the Chairman of the Board for the Boy Scouts in Ridgebury Township. He and Linda enjoyed Square Dancing and were members of the Grand Paraders in Troy.  Dick was a past president of the dancing group.  He also enjoyed collecting license plates, loved football, baseball, and golf, and spending time with family and friends.  He was often heard saying “A stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet.” Faith was important to Dick, he was a member of the Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church since the 1950’s.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Linda, his sons: James R. (Martine) Janowsky of New York, NY, and Daniel R. Janowsky of Ridgebury, PA, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers and sisters: Russell Johnston, Dorothy DuVall, George Miller, Sarah “Sally” Lattimer, and Fritz C. “Jr.” Janowsky.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, January 2, 2015 and again from 10:00-11:00 am on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, New York.  The funeral service to honor Dick’s life will be held at the conclusion of the viewing at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 3rd at the funeral home with his pastor and friend, Rev. Robert Wuethrich officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of his family in Hanlon Hill Cemetery.

Dick’s family will be providing flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church 13255 Berwick Turnpike, Gillett, PA 16925. The family would like to thank all who attended Dick’s “Living Funeral” on December 13th and the Guthrie Hospice with a special thanks going to Carrie, Patty, Anja, and Connie.
