Helen Ruth Mitchell of Lowman, NY, passed away on Tuesday, October10, 2017 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility just 5 weeks shy of her 90th birthday.  She was the loving wife of Fred Mitchell who passed away December 14, 2012.  The couple married in November of 1963 and had 49 happy years together.

One of fourteen children, Helen was born on November 17, 1927 in Karthaus, PA, daughter of the late Michael and Amelia (Benson) Kolivoski.  Helen was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed raising her children and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She canned the produce and was especially known for her pickles. Helen was a petite woman but there was nobody stronger or feistier. She loved the simple life and had a good sense of humor that will keep her family laughing for years to come.

Helen is survived by her children: sons, Fred Mitchell of Elmira, NY and Donald (Donna Austin) Hatch of Erin, NY; daughters, Michele (Donald Cina) Mitchell of Elmira, NY and Donna (Cecil) Roote of Elmira, NY, and Patricia Hatch of Geneva, NY; grandchildren Allen (Bobbi) Roote of Horseheads, NY and Cheryl (Kal) Harrington of Springboro, OH; great grandchildren Kaitlyn Roote, Matthew and Aaron Harrington, and McKenzie McCann; brother James Kolivoski, sisters Mary Bartlett, Margaret Heffernan, Amelia Rieter, and Patricia Turick, and brother-in-law Robert (Elaine) Mitchell plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her parents, husbands Raymond Hatch and Fredrick Mitchell, daughter Darlene Hatch, brothers Robert, George, Harry and Michael; sisters, Anna, Alma, Ivy and Linda and brother-in-law Albert Mitchell.

The graveside committal service to honor Helen’s life will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Bentley Creek Cemetery, in Bentley Creek, PA.

The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.

 Memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to the charity of one’s own choosing.
