WELLSBURG- Albert John Mitchell, 73, of Ridgebury Township, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.  He was the loving husband of Barbara Ann Potter Mitchell.
Al was born on July 20, 1940 in New York City, NY, son of the late Robert and Rachel (Parker) Mitchell.  He was a US Army veteran, serving his country in the 64th Ordnance Company during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Local #832 of the International Union of Operating Engineers out of Rochester, NY. Al was an active member of the Ridgebury Sportsman Club, Inc., was a member, past Chaplin, and member of the Honor Guard of the Bentley-Trumble Post #442 of the American Legion in Horseheads, NY, was a member of Lodge #0095 of Free & Accepted Masons in Elmira, NY, and was a past Masonic Grotto member.   Albert is survived by his wife Barbara, his step sons: Joe Potter of Southport, NY, Roy Potter of Ridgebury, PA, and Dan Potter of Horseheads, NY, his brother Bob (Elaine) Mitchell of Alaska, sister-in-law Helen Mitchell of Lowman, NY, along with many nieces and nephews including Donny Hatch.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Frederick Mitchell.   The graveside committal service to honor Al’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Bentley Creek Cemetery, along the Berwick Turnpike in Bentley Creek, PA.  Military honors will be given by the US Army and the Chemung County Honor Gaurd.  The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.   Memorial Contributions may be made in Albert’s memory to the Ridgebury Sportsman Club, Inc. 961 Centerville Rd, Gillett, PA 16925 or to the Bentley-Trumble Post #442 of the American Legion 71 Old Ithaca Road, Horseheads NY 14845.
