Bernard Elwood Barnes, Jr.

Bernard Elwood Barnes, Jr., a lifelong resident of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, in his hometown at the age of 73. Born on September 30, 1952, in Elmira, he was the son of the late Bernard Elwood Barnes, Sr., and Olive (Hanna) Barnes. A dedicated craftsman, Bernard worked for many years as a painter with Cook's Painting in Elmira.

Bernard is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Jetti and Brian Ostrander of Elmira, NY; his granddaughters, Kayla (Nick) Bolt of Elmira, NY, and Alexis Ostrander of Wellsburg, NY; and four great-grandchildren, Brynnleigh Bolt, Oaklynne Mathews, Ellie Mathews, and Isabelle Bolt. He was preceded in death by his parents and his cherished wife of 36 years, Jacquelyn C. (Hollenbeck) Barnes, who passed away on April 3, 2017.

In accordance with his wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of his family. The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc, Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
