Chemung

Edward Anthony Carolin, age 82, of Chemung, passed away on July 6, 2025, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

The son of Edward and Anne (Degan) Carolin, he was born on December 16, 1942, in Syracuse, NY. He graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School and earned an associate’s degree from SUNY Morrisville. Ed was employed for many years at the Carnation Company. He later owned several businesses with his wife, Donna M. Carolin, for more than 50 years, including C&C General Merchandise, Big Horn General Store, Big Horn Auto Sales, and Big Horn Fasteners and Supply.

Ed was an avid entrepreneur. He loved the thrill of chasing a good deal, whether it was a piece of property, a vehicle or even tools. He enjoyed fixing and tinkering with old cars and working in the garage, especially with his good friends. He was passionate about music, motorcycles and old movies.

Ed was the type of person who would lend a hand to anyone. He owned several units of affordable housing that he rented to people in need. He also devoted the last few years of his life to caring for his wife of 57 years, who died just one month before his passing.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and his great-grandchild Lakelyn Vanderpool.

Ed is survived by two daughters: Keri (Scott) Mullen, of Sayre, Pa. and Kelly (James) Marsicano, of Dumont, N.J.; six grandchildren: Bradley Sampson, Justess (Andrew) Vanderpool, Amanda Sampson, Alex Mullen, Casey Marsicano, and Riley Marsicano; five great-grandchildren: Timothy Hoyt, Payten Hoyt, Andrew Vanderpool Jr., Lainie Vanderpool, and Dolores Hopson; two sisters: Patricia (Brian) Shanley and Karen (Thomas) Keefe; one brother: Michael (Elizabeth) Carolin; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 S. Elmer Ave., Sayre, Pa., 18840, on July 14, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m. Burial and committal will be at 1:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Syracuse, NY.
