Edward "Ed" Daniel Maxson, a beloved father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, Uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, of Wellsburg, NY. Born on July 24, 1946, in Hornell, NY, Ed was 79 years old at the time of his passing.
Ed served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the Chemung County Honor Guard and a dedicated supporter of the Vietnam War Museum. His service and commitment to his country and community were exemplary.
Ed spent his career as a skilled welder with Conrail Railroad, where his hard work and dedication were greatly admired. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ed had a passion for working on cars and computers, and he found joy and tranquility in fishing. His love for these pursuits was matched only by his devotion to his family, with whom he cherished every moment.
He was a kind and giving soul, known to all as the type of man who would give the shirt off his back. His warmth and generosity touched the lives of everyone he encountered. Ed was deeply connected to his community. His legacy of service and kindness continues to inspire those who knew him.
Ed leaves behind a loving family: his sons, James Maxson and Christopher Maxson; his daughter/caregiver, Rebecca Norton and her husband Jesse; his cherished grandchildren, Ashley Barrett, Cody Norton, Tyler Burchard, and Austin Burchard; and his adored great-grandchildren, Shaylyne Maxson, Tryton Barrett, Melanie Barrett, Daxton Burchard, Mason Burchard, Tyler Burchard, Jr., Aiden Burchard, Aubrielle Norton, Brantlee Norton, and Ellie Mae Burchard. He is also survived by his brothers, William Maxson of Florida and Robert Maxson and his wife Jody of Hornell, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Maxson and Helen (Oliver) Strong, his beloved wife Bonnie D. (Bush) Maxson, who departed this life on November 22, 2005, and his sister, Elaine,(Mike) Mullen.
A viewing will be held from 4:00-5:00 PM on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Roberts Funeral Home, Inc., located at 279 Main St., Wellsburg, NY. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 PM at the same location. Ed will be laid to rest with military honors at Bath National Cemetery in Bath, NY.
