Elizabeth Marie (King) Blitz

Elizabeth M. "Marie" (King) Blitz, of Wellsburg, NY, a devoted family matriarch and a cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, in Sayre, Pennsylvania, at the age of 89. She now rests peacefully in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. Born on April 29, 1935, in Nichols, New York, Marie was the beloved daughter of the late Harold and Elsie (Volrath) King. Marie dedicated much of her professional life to caring for others, proudly serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and later as an Activities Leader at Elderwood Nursing & Rehabilitation in Waverly, New York. Her nurturing spirit and passion for enhancing the lives of those around her were hallmarks of her career.

A true enthusiast of history, particularly the Civil War, Marie also found joy in genealogy, cooking, and painting. These interests showcased her curiosity and creativity, traits that enriched her life and those of her family and friends. Marie was a faithful attendee of the Wellsburg United Methodist Church and an active community member through her involvement with the Rescue Squad and Ladies Auxiliary of the Wellsburg Fire Department. Her dedication to the Chemung County Historical Society further exemplified her commitment to preserving local heritage.

Marie leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, carried on by her surviving family: her sons, Mitchel (Jan) Rought of Chemung, NY, and Michael (Krista) Rought of Lockwood, NY; her daughters, Melanie (Scott) Roberts of Sayre, PA, Colleen (Richard) Bowers of Black River, NY, and Kelly Blitz of Schenectady, NY. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James C. Blitz; her daughter, Michele Ackley; her sister, Gertrude Rathbun; and her devoted parents.

In accordance with Marie's wishes, a private service will be held at the convenience of her family. The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main St. Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Wellsburg Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, 147 Main St., Wellsburg, NY 14894, or the Chemung County Historical Society, 415 E Water St., Elmira, NY 14901.
