Elsie L. (Plate) Shock, age 88,of Wellsburg, NY, passed away on April 20, 2026, in her hometown of Elmira, NY. Born on June 16, 1937, in Elmira, she lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to others.
Elsie was a woman of many talents and interests. She began her professional journey at Thatcher Glass and the A&P Plant before dedicating herself to the Small Business Administration. Following her passions, she earned her Registered Nursing degree after her children were grown, and served as a Registered Nurse at Tioga Nursing Facility (now known as Elderwood). Her compassion and leadership led her to become a Nursing Supervisor in eldercare, where she touched many lives with her kindness and expertise.
Her personal interests were as diverse as her career. Elsie found joy in the great outdoors through fishing and camping, nurtured her green thumb through gardening, and expressed her creativity through crafts and painting. Her life was enriched by her faith and community at Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church, where she actively participated and attended services.
Elsie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Fredrick and Mary (Tice) Plate; her dear husband, Everett A. Shock, who passed away on January 4, 2025; her son William Shock who passed away December 4, 2018; and her son Kenneth "Ken" Shock, Sr., who passed away on December 24, 2025. As the last surviving sibling of 13 children, she cherished her family deeply.
She is survived by her loving daughter Nancy (Jerry) Kreisler; her devoted son Michael (Linda) Shock; her cherished son Kenneth Shock, Jr.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will all remember her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Roberts Funeral Home, Inc., located at 279 Main St., Wellsburg, NY. The celebration of Elsie's life will follow at 12:00 pm, officiated by her pastor, Rev. Robert Wuethrich. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church, 13255 Berwick Turnpike, Gillett, PA 16925, or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
