Eugene J. Cranmer, 59, of Wellsburg, NY, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. Gene was born on September 24, 1955 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Elmer E. Cranmer and Betty Jean (Anderson) Cranmer of Wellsburg. He was a Waverly High School graduate, Class of 1974, and was a US Army veteran, serving his country for 3 years of active duty as a Motor Transport Operator and then for 20 years in the Army Reserves as a Mechanic. Gene worked for Coach & Equipment in Pen Yan, NY where he was a Fabricator and Welder. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting, working on cars, going to the races at the Chemung Speedrome and the Dundee Speedway, and watching horseracing and gambling at Tioga Downs. Gene was Baptist by faith.
Gene is survived by his sons Anthony Cranmer of Keuka Park, NY and Andrew Cranmer of Pen Yan, NY, his grandchildren Connor, Blake, and Savannah Cranmer, his brothers and sisters: Alan (Darlene) Cranmer of Chemung, NY, Barbara (Stanley) Stromitis of Waverly, NY, Debra (Luke) Eiklor of Barton, NY, Steven (Kathie) Cranmer of Lowman, NY, and Terri (Donald) Boehm, Jr. of Wellsburg, NY, sister-in-law Lynn Cranmer of Sayre, PA, along with several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his father Elmer, and his brother David Cranmer.
Family and friends are welcome to call from 6:00-7:00 pm on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY. Military rites will be given at Woodlawn National Cemetery at a later date.
