Janice N. Carpenter

Janice N. Carpenter, a cherished member of the Elmira community, passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on February 2, 1928, in Elmira, NY, she spent her entire life surrounded by the people and places she held dear.

Janice was a dedicated employee of Sears, Roebuck & Co., where she worked both in downtown Elmira and later at the Arnot Mall. Her love for reading and tending to her flower garden brought her joy and tranquility throughout her life. A devout member and past secretary of the Wellsburg United Methodist Church, Janice's faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her actions and enriching her spirit.

Janice is survived by her loving son, David G. (Tammy) Carpenter, and her devoted daughter, Carol M. (Patrick) Cornacchio. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Nicole (Cody) Arthur, Jessica L. Cornacchio (Matt), and Kassandra (Brian) Box. Her legacy lives on through her great-grandchildren, Mark A. Cornacchio, Noah P. Cornacchio, Wyatt V. Cornacchio, Elijah D. Box, Abigail E. Box, and Wade P. Cornacchio. She will be fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Albert P. and Myrtilla (Merriam) Newcomer; her devoted husband, Gordon V. Carpenter, who passed away on September 24, 2016; her brothers, John (Anna) Nolan and Walter A. (Mary F.) Newcomer; brother-in-law, Norman (Susan) Carpenter; and sister-in-law, Shirley J. Pike.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc., located at 279 Main St., Wellsburg, NY 14894. The memorial service to celebrate Janice's life will follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
