Jay M. Smith, Age 82 of Southport, NY, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Arnot Ogden Medical
Center. Jay was born in Elmira, NY to Delos and May (Johnson) Smith. He was a US Army Combat
Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving 16 years including the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a
former truck driver with Rose, Kimball & Baxter Inc., Promart Hardware of Elmira NY. Jay was a life member of the American Legion, Elmira Heights Post 154. Jay loved music, big band era, 50's, 60's, 70's, at one time he ran his own DJ service with his daughters family and his wife. He liked Native American history and Military history, visiting Gettysburg and Newtown Battlefields alot. He liked Military vehicles, aircraft, ships, old steam locomotives, and old cars. He was proud of his son, a Retired Army 1sg, Combat Veteran serving 30+yrs. But his pride and joy was his daughter Marjorie, all his grandchildren + great grandchildren, they made him very happy, and all will miss him dearly.
Survivors include a daughter Marjorie (Gordon) Fitzmaurice of Elmira, NY, a son 1sg Daniel J (Marlene) Smith Army Retired of Southport, NY, four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two sisters, Josephine(Jack) Ellsworth of East Smithfield, PA, Mary Gage
of Elmira, a step sister Lupita Lum of Orlando FL, brother in law Donald Levack of Southport,
NY.
Jay was predeceased by his parents, his wife Shirley I. (Fulmer) Smith, sister Lorraine "Rosie" Levack, Brother, Leroy "Sonny" Smith.
It was the family’s request that there be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the
Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY.
