John Andrew "Jack" Owen

John Andrew "Jack" Owen, born on May 14, 1942, in Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at "Camp" their home, on August 28, 2024, at the age of 82.

Jack dedicated many years of his life to educating young minds as a teacher at Athens Area School District. Prior to that, he worked for Sperry Rail and spent years in real estate, owning his own agency. Outside of his professional career, he was an avid hunter, known for his adventurous spirit that took him on hunting trips out west and moose hunting expeditions in Newfoundland. He was also a proud member of the Chemung Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed to the fraternity's community efforts.

Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth P. (Schaub) Molnar Owen, and his cherished daughters Vicki (Tom) Edger of Townsville, SC, and Debra (Jeffrey) Staub of St. Helena Island, SC. Jack also leaves behind his stepsons Scott (Ellen) Molnar and Mark (Chris Robbins) Molnar, both of Athens. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Lindsay (Jeremy) Mitchell, Wyatt Grace, Cody (Emily) Detrick, Zachary Staub, Gregory Staub, Laura (Mike) Stratton, Elizabeth Molnar, Kirstie (Josh) Lake, Leanne (Dawson) Young and Tony (Bridgett) Robbins, as well as his 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Francis Owen, James Owen, Robert Owen, Thomas Owen, Mary Owen, and Ronald Owen, along with several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him. Jack was preceded in death by his loving parents, Elmo and Helen (McCarthy) Owen, as well as his siblings Ann Carrigan and William "Bill" Owen.

The family will follow his request and hold private services at their convenience to honor Jack's memory. The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main St. Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
