John George Snell, affectionately known as George, passed away peacefully at his home in Chemung, NY, on October 3, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on February 7, 1955, in Elmira, NY, George lived a life marked by service, dedication, and community involvement.

George proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he continued to protect and serve by working for the Waverly Police Department. He later retired after a fulfilling career as a New York State Police Dispatcher at the Horseheads, NY Barracks. George was a life member of the Chemung, NY Fire Department, where he forged many friendships and contributed to his community's safety and well-being. His steadfast commitment to service was evident throughout his life, always ready to lend a helping hand or a reassuring presence.

George enjoyed spending his leisurely hours tending to his garden, finding peace and purpose in nurturing life from the soil. His hands that once held the tools of service and protection found solace in the gentle cultivation of nature's beauty.

Preceded in death by his beloved parents, John W. and Ethel Snell, George leaves behind his brother, William Snell, of Chemung, NY, who will dearly miss him, alongside many cherished friends who had the privilege of knowing him.

A graveside service will be held to honor George's life and legacy at the Chemung Cemetery, located on North Street, Chemung, NY, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chemung Fire Department, PO Box 138, Chemung, NY 14825, to continue supporting the community George loved so dearly.
