Michael E. Burt

WELLSBURG, NY - Michael E. Burt, Age 61, of State Route 352, Elmira, NY passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Mike was born February 10, 1953 in Elmira, NY son of the late Howard E. and Shirley (Neiderberger) Burt. He and the former Beverly J. Burnham were married on February 2, 1985 and celebrated 29 years together. Mike recently retired in 2012 from GST BOCES where he worked as an Intervention Specialist for 30 years. He enjoyed the time spent with his family he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He was an avid angler and enjoyed spending his spare time on the boat with his many fishing buddies. He was a member of the Finger Lakes Trolling Association and spent many nights camping in Clute Park. He was also an avid New York sports fan following the NY Yankees, NY Knicks, NY Giants and Syracuse Orangemen. Previously Mike was part of Brett Bodine's modified racing team and pit crew Mike had a special relationship with his grandson Brandon who will certainly miss his time spent at the lake with his "Pa".
Survivors include his loving wife Bev of Elmira, a son Michael Burt II and his fiancAC.e Kelly Spotts, a step-daughter, Valerie and Matt Heywood of Horseheads, a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Vicki Burt of Crowley, TX a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Matt Stein of Indian Trail, NC, his grandson, Brandon Burt, four step-grandchildren, Cassidy Henderson, Nora, Evan and Anna Heywood, nieces, nephews, friends and former students.
Mike was predeceased by his parents and his step-daughter Kris Cooper.
Family and friends called Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Mike's funeral was held at the conclusion of calling hours at with Reverend William Vallet of the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Ashland Cemetery, Wellsburg, NY.
