Robert A. May

Robert A. May, 91, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016.  He was the loving husband of the late Betty (Watson) May who passed away August 6, 1996.

Robert was born on May 7, 1925 in Elmira, son of the late Joseph B. and Nettie (Bartlett) May.  He was a South Side High School graduate and a US Army veteran, serving his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.  Robert was a dairy farmer until his retirement in 2006, was a member of the Farm Bureau and North Chemung United Methodist Church, was a founding member of the East Hill Volunteer Fire Department, and enjoyed hunting and watching golf on television.

Robert is survived by his son Dennis (Cathy) May of Elmira, granddaughters Melissa (Jeremy) Hogan and Teresa (Ryan) Ervin , both of Elmira, step granddaughters Caitlin Doolittle of Elmira and Amy Doolittle of Binghamton, NY, nine great grandchildren, his brother Gerald E. May of Lowman, NY, his sister-in-law Margaret “Peg” Morse of Elmira, along with several nieces and nephews.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, and his sister-in-law Shirley May.

Services are private and at the convenience of Robert’s family.  The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
