Sidney W. Roberts

Sidney W. Roberts, Age 77, of Elmira formerly of Horseheads, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Sidney was born May 30, 1939 in Elmira son of the late James H. and Gladys Rose (Becks) Roberts. He attended local schools and entered the US Army in 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1964. Sidney was retired from the Elmira City School District where he was employed in the care of buildings department. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing and the times spent with his family.

Surviving are his daughter Amy Aylesworth, son Dale Aylesworth, step-son, David Scherer, his companion of 46 years Marion Golden, all of Elmira, a brother Francis Roberts of OK, five grandchildren, sister-in-law, Bernadette Roberts of Horseheads, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sidney was predeceased by his parents, and brothers, James, Stanley, Gordon “Smokey”, Douglass and Rodney.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service that will be held at 10 AM. Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Woodlawn National Cemetery, 1825 Davis Street, Elmira, NY where full military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Sydney’s memory can be made to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, 388 Upper Oakwood Avenue, Elmira, NY 14903.
