Stuart W. Wood

October 4, 1937 — March 27, 2016

Stuart W. Wood, age 78, of Gillett, PA passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the Rochester General Hospital. Stuart was born October 4, 1937 in Solon, NY son of the late Clayton E. and Edith P. (Storey) Wood.  Following school he entered the United States Air Force and served from 1955 to 1958 at Otis Air Force Base.  He was a born salesman who sold everything from rags and paper in his youth to horses, cars and furnaces.  He operated many automobile dealerships in New York and Pennsylvania since 1958, having owned and operated Stuart Wood Sales on Centerville Road, Ridgebury Township, PA for the past 20 years.  He was fondly known as “The Working Man’s Friend”.  Survivors include his wife of 33 years Bettina “Tina” Wood of Gillett, and their children, Heidi Wood (Brandon Cleary) of Elmira, and Heather Wood (Roberto Ciuro) of Elmira.  He is also survived by his previous wife, Ruth Wood, mother of his children Diane (Jerry) Nachtrieb of Homer, NY, Stuart (Carol) Wood, Jr., of Moravia, NY, Daniel Wood of Moravia, NY, Mark (Lynette) Wood of Moravia, NY, Alan (Kim McIntyre) Wood of Cottage Grove, WI, Joanne (William) Badman of Moravia, NY, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a sister Agnes Wood of Cortland, NY, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Also surviving is Stuart’s canine companion “Molly”.

Stuart was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Betty Mortis, Clayton “Tink” Wood, George Wood, Louise Guernsey and Ella Wood.

Stuart’s life was filled with his family and many friends and he enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Lake Ondawa.  Stuart was also a life member of the Ridgebury Sportsman Club.

The family would like to invite you to help celebrate Stuart’s life on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Regal (R3), 2447 Corning Road, (Miracle Mile) Elmira, NY from 4 to 7 PM.  A service to honor his life will be held at 6:30 PM with Rev. Micky Cavanaugh of the Gillett Baptist Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Stuart’s memory may be made to the Moravia Rotary Club, P.O. Box 649, Moravia, NY  13118.
