Wendy D. (Moyer) Root

Wendy D. (Moyer) Root, Age 63 of Southport, NY passed away very unexpectedly on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Wendy was born in Elmira on January 23, 1955 daughter of the late Rexford A. and Elizabeth L. (Langbell) Moyer. She was a graduate of Southside High School and furthered her education at Elmira Business Institute. She was employed as a bank teller at HSBC and then Five Star Bank in Elmira for many years. Prior to her banking career she worked at Bradlees Department Store at the Arnot Mall. She was married to Richard Root on September 14, 2002 celebrating 16 years together.

Wendy always looked for the good in people, she never spoke an unkind word.  She attended Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church where her church family grew to be an important part of both her and Richard’s lives. Wendy enjoyed 50’s and 60’s music, reading, and spending time with her family. Richard introduced her to a new found love of motorcycle riding and together they enjoyed many trips.

Survivors include her loving husband Richard Root of Southport, her son David Cain of Elmira, daughter Elizabeth (Chris Cleveland) Cain of Elmira, brother and sister-in-law, Gregg (Edna) Moyer of Pine City, five grandchildren, Taylor and Brittany Cain, Christopher, Zachary and Katlin Cleveland, Brother-in-laws, Steven (Jackie) Root of Anahual, TX, Mark Root of Elmira, sister-in-law, Elaine Cleveland of Elmira, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wendy was predeceased by her parents and step-mother Dorothy Moyer.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, 1238 Pennsylvania Avenue, Pine City, NY 14871. Her service will follow at 6:00 PM with Pastor Bill Vallet officiating.

Memorials in Wendy’s memory may be made to Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church or to Camp Good Days, 1332 Pittsford-Mendon Rd. Box 665 Mendon, NY 14506.
