Donald L. Kimble, USN Retired, Age 86, of Horseheads, NY passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. Don was born May12, 1937 in the Town of Corning, son of the late Harry & Beatrice (Holmes) Kimble. Following graduation Don joined the US Navy where he served 23 years and retired in 1978. While serving his country he was a Chief Radioman in Communications. He and the former Marilyn White were married on May 16, 1958 and recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Don also worked following his retirement at Corning/GTE/Sylvania in Wellsboro, PA, and AFI Cybernetics in Elmira, NY. He was a member of the Troupsburg United Methodist Church, Bentley -Trumble American Legion Post 442 in Horseheads, General Sullivan Lodge # 95 F & AM in Horseheads, NY, and in his spare time enjoyed playing guitar, singing, square dancing and being part of several ham radio clubs through the years. Don also took great pride in being a member of the Chemung County Veterans Honor Guard.
Surviving are his loving wife, Marilyn Kimble of Horseheads, two sons, Brad & Loreen Kimble of Prescott, AZ, Craig & Joy Kimble of Athens, PA, two daughters, Gail Kimble of Elmira, NY, Kris & Lee Ivers of Himrod, NY, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, a sister, Shirley Tymel of TX, four brothers, Doug & Shirlee Kimble of NY, David & Ruth Kimble of Nebraska, Dan & Nancy Kimble of FL, Paul Kimble, a sister-in-law, Rose Kimble of PA, several nieces, nephews and friends.
Don was predeceased by his parents, a sister June Mattison and a brother Carl Kimble.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Horseheads Masonic Lodge, 607 Main Street, Horseheads, NY 14845. A Masonic Service will be held there at 1:00 PM followed by Military Honors by the Chemung County Veterans Honor Guard.
