Fred James Mitchell, 54 of Elmira, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 24, 2023 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Fred was born on June 23, 1969 in Elmira, NY, son of the late Frederick and Helen Mitchell. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories. Fred was known for his quick wit, honest opinions, and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. In return, he appreciated his friends that helped him out through the years.

Fred is survived by his siblings Michele (Donald Cina) Mitchell of Elmira, NY; Donna (Cecil) Roote of Elmira, NY; Donald (Donna Austin) Hatch of Erin, NY; nephew Allen (Bobbi) Roote of Horseheads, NY, niece Cheryl (Kal) Harrington of Cape Coral, Florida, great niece Kaitlyn Roote, great nephews Matthew and Aaron Harrington and McKenzie McCann (Michele) who was like a daughter to him.

Services will be private and at the convenience of Fred’s family. The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In Fred’s memory, please celebrate by doing something that would honor his life, whether it be hunting or fishing, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys or drinking a beer…the possibilities are endless!
