James Blitz Obituary

James C. Blitz, 70, of Wellsburg, NY, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth M. (King) Blitz.  The couple married May 14, 1972 and had 46 happy years together.

Jim was born March 27, 1948 in Elmira, NY, son of the late James and Ernestine (Franquet) Blitz. He was a 1966 graduate of SRU and worked for the Town of Ashland as a laborer until his retirement in 2016. Jim attended Wellsburg United Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Company, was a member of the Wellsburg Village Board, and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and coin collector.

Jim is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his children: Mitchel (Jan) Rought of Chemung, NY, Michael (Krista) Rought of Lockwood, NY, Melanie (Scott) Roberts of Sayre, PA, Colleen (Richard) Bowers of Black River, NY, and Kelly (Ken) Sanford of Schenectady, NY, son-in-law Chris Ackley of Sayre, PA, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, his brother Gary (Margaret) Blitz of Elmira, NY, along with several nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Michele Ackley.

Per Jim’s wishes there will be no funeral service. The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Company, 147 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY 14894.
