James Potrzebowski Obituary

James Edmond Potrzebowski, 66, of Lowman, NY passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 on his own terms at home after a long and courageous battle against cancer.

Jim was born on November 20, 1955 to parents Jim and Marie Gullo in Corning, NY. In 1975 Jim met the love of his life Pat in Elmira, NY. They were married for 47 years and had 4 children, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Jim worked for American LaFrance from 1972-1980 and then Shepard Niles from 1980-1986 before going on to start several successful businesses of his own, most notably Jim’s Performance Shop and Glider City Auto. In 2004 it was said that Jim had retired but those who knew him knew that he never stopped working. There was always one more “last engine” to build. In 2015 Jim became a member of the Baldwin Volunteer Fire Company. In 2016 Jim earned Firefighter of the Year for his service to the fire department and his community. When Jim wasn’t in his garage “tinkering” he could be found at the races, playing his guitar, tending his chickens and garden, or in the woods hunting deer. Jim had a zest for life, making people laugh, bringing people together, and spending time with those he loved.

Jim was predeceased by his grandson Troy Lanning Potrzebowski, father Jim and mother Marie Gullo, brothers Michael Potrzebowski and Floyd Potrzebowski. He is survived by his wife Pat Potrzebowski, son James (Belinda) Potrzebowski, daughter Reba (Omar) Kingsbury, son Jeremy (Cortney) Potrzebowski, daughter Jennifer Lampman, sister Virginia (Jack) Naylor, sister Gloria Potrzebowski, sister Joan Horton, brother Gary (Donna) Potrzebowski, brother Ron (Susan) Potrzebowski, sister Anne Proctor, brother Terry (Ann) Potrzebowski, brother Mark (Sally) Kinsman, brother Dale Gullo, sister Vicki Gullo, and brother Tim (Tara) Gullo.
