Mary Elizabeth Hartman, 78, of Lowman, NY, passed away on June 28, 2023, at Strong Memorial hospital after complications from a stroke. She was born on August 16, 1944, in Syracuse, NY, to the late George and Christine Wooster Bruster. Mary was raised by her late stepmother, Wanda Bruster. She was predeceased by her sister Betty (George) Sutliff, and her brothers George, Jack, Jerry, and Robert Bruster. Mary was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Krista Jayne and great-granddaughter Alicia Jayne.
Mary lived most of her life in the Ithaca/Spencer area, where she raised her family and created countless cherished memories. She had a deep love for penguins and enjoyed watching The Young and The Restless soap opera. Mary was also a dedicated fan of the Buffalo Bills and Penn State football teams. In her free time, she and her husband, Geoffrey Hartman, would go camping at Pine Cradle Lake, P.A., for 13 years. During the winters, they would spend time in Clover, S.C., with their daughter and son-in-law, Debbie (Hartman) and Scott Doane.
Mary retired from Cornell University Building Care after a fulfilling career. She will be remembered for her kind-hearted nature and her love for her family. Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Geoffrey Hartman of Lowman, her children Joan Chandler of Brooktondale, Debbie Hartman-Doane (Scott) of Marathon, and Brian (Danielle) Porter of Cortland. She is also survived by her grandchildren Chad (Jen) Jayne of Van Etten, Matt Porter (Katie) of Seattle, WA, Megan Porter (Lexie) of Cortland, and great-grandson Keegan Jayne. Mary is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
In accordance with Mary's wishes, no services will be held. However, Mary had a passion for helping others, and she loved donating to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary's memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Your support will help provide life-saving treatment to children in need.
Mary Elizabeth Hartman will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
