Orlo L. Doane, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his residence in Erin, NY on August 7th, 2023. He was born on February 28, 1936, in Elmira, NY. Orlo was 87 years old at the time of his passing.
Orlo dedicated many years of his life to serving in the US Army as a Sergeant 1st Class, leaving behind an honorable legacy after his retirement. Orlo's commitment to duty and service was recognized with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal. After Orlo’s retirement he continued to contribute to his community where he served as a school bus driver and held the position of Supervisor with the Town of Erin. Additionally, he worked as a Security Guard for A&P and the Park Station.
Outside of his professional life, Orlo had a wide array of interests and hobbies that brought him much joy throughout his lifetime. He had a green thumb and found solace in gardening and farming. Orlo also enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it be camping, playing in horseshoe tournaments, or going hunting and fishing. He loved the thrill and excitement of visiting casinos and playing bingo. One of his favorite pastimes was bowling, which he always found to be a source of great entertainment. Additionally, Orlo cherished his winter trips to Florida, where he could relax and enjoy the warm weather.
Orlo leaves behind a loving family and numerous friends who will miss his spirit deeply. Surviving him are his devoted wife, Kathy (Struzinsky) Doane; daughters Christine M. (Alfred) Waters and Dianna S. (Thomas) Raczkowski; brothers Robert Doan and Duane Janowski; sister Katherine McKerrow; and grandchildren Gregory (Sarah) Wainwright, Melissa Wainwright, Jessica (Justin) Manchester, Rebecca Whitman, Ashley (Heath) Davis, Cody Doane, Courtney Doane, Anthony Doane, and Makayla Doane, along with 18 great grandchildren. Orlo is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John M. Doan, Violet E. (Gunsolus), son John L. Doane, brothers George Doan, Herb Doan, Vern Doan, and sister Mary Shrimp.
Services to honor Orlo's life will be held on August 14, 2023 at The Roberts Funeral Home. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. The viewing will take place from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with Military Honors to follow at 7:00 pm. Friends, family, and acquaintances are invited to pay their respects as we celebrate the remarkable life of Orlo L. Doane.
