Robert J. Makowiec

Robert J. Makowiec, 82, of Southport, NY, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at home. He was born on November 4, 1940 in Blossburg, PA, son of the late Joseph and Jean (Wieczorek) Makowiec. Robert was a US Navy veteran and after was a Supervisor for Trayer Products in Elmira, NY until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elmira and enjoyed the outdoors, family gatherings, and watching John Wayne movies. Robert was a great cook, loved well-cooked meals, and enjoyed top shelf margaritas and Heineken beer. He was known as a skilled poker player, liked to attend races at the Finger Lakes Racetrack, and liked to do off track betting.

Robert is survived by his life partner Mary A. Briggs, children: Jack Makowiec and fiancé Marlena Henke of Elmira, Pamela (Donny) Corwin of Lawrenceville, PA and Kimberly A. (Daniel)Ward of Pine City, NY, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brothers: Tom (Mary) Makowiec and Mark (Robin) Makowiec, both of Southport, Sister Audrey (Dave) Manchester of Big Flats, NY, along with several nieces, nephews, and canine companion Eli. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Anne Sampsell, and best friend Lee Apostle.

Services will be private and are at the convenience of Robert’s family. The Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
