Robert William Smith, Sr.

Robert William "Bob" Smith, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024, at the age of 93. He was born on January 11, 1931, in Coudersport, PA, to Richard and Ava Mae (Rodgers) Smith. Bob's life was filled with diverse experiences and cherished moments. He dedicated many years of his life as a prison guard at the Southport Correctional Facility in Pine City, NY. His commitment to serving others extended beyond his professional life, and he took great pride in his work. When Bob wasn't working, he pursued various interests that brought him joy and fulfillment. Among these were hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, and flying planes. He was an avid pilot, finding solace and adventure in the skies. Above all, Bob valued spending quality time with his family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be treasured by all who knew him. Bob was a dedicated member of Millerton Wesleyan Church and proudly served as a veteran of the US Army Air Corps. Throughout his life, he demonstrated unwavering loyalty and commitment to those he loved and to the causes he believed in.

Bob is survived by his children, Richard (Jackie) Smith of Erin, NY, Bruce J. (Tammy) Andrus of Gillett, PA, and Brenda L. (Harold) Andrus of Chittenango, NY. Bob's memory will also be cherished by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Ella May Haxton of Bolivar, NY along with several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ava Mae Smith, his first wife, Rowena (Spencer) Smith, his second wife, Judith Andrus-Smith, his son, Robert W. Smith, Jr., his son, Matt Smith, and several brothers and sisters. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his surviving family and friends.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Roberts Funeral Home, Inc., located at 279 Main St. in Wellsburg, NY. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Laurie Greenlaw officiating. Bob will be laid to rest in the Gillett Cemetery.
