Ruby J. (Eliga) Hitchcock, age 91 passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022 at Steuben Center for Rehabilitation and Heath Care in Bath, NY.
She was born in Fowlstown, Georgia to the late Ben Eliga Sr, and Erma (Holt) Eliga on September 10, 1930. In addition, to her parents she was predeceased by, sisters, Dorothy L Howard, Cherry F. Simmons (Caregiver), Jennie Elijah (Caregiver), brothers, Willie D. Eliga, Robert Eliga, Ben Eliga Jr. and Raymond Eliga. Ruby is survived by, special cousins Barbara and Samone Ellerson (Caregivers) of Akron Ohio, special nieces, Lillie Rollins Elmira, NY (Caregiver). Sibrina Washington (Caregiver) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ruby worked at the Cleveland VA Hospital, Ohio for 30 plus years, retiring in 1995. She relocated to Elmira, NY with her niece, Lillie Rollins in 2008. With her declining health she was admitted to Corning Founders long term care in 2013. In 2015, she was transferred to Steuben Center for Long Term care and Rehabilitation.
Ruby loved her family, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She had the biggest heart for caring and giving. She had the widest smile and the loudest giggles that was so contagious to everyone. She was active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Akron Ohio. She loved serving the Lord, singing in the choir, cooking, fund raising, etc. Loved her music…..Gospels and the Blues. She had a gift for gardening. She belong to the Flower and Gardening Club at North Hills Complex, Akron Ohio. Cooking and entertaining was two of many of the hobbies she enjoyed as well. She loved to travel with her friends on cruises as well as hosting dinner parties. A true lady! Dressed to a tee! Enjoyed shopping!!!!!! Hats, shoes, purses, gloves, furs and jewelry had to always be in coordination. THAT’S OUR RUBY!!!!!!!
A Celebration of her Life service will be held on a later date with Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
