Shirley Short Obituary

Shirley Jean (Pease) Short went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 2, 2022, in Georgia, previously living in Pine City, NY nearly her entire life.    A Leap Year Baby born on February 29, 1932, Shirley lived a life dedicated to family, faith, and helping others.    She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She often said our family came from ‘pioneer stock’, and therefore could forge ahead through the most challenging situations, as she demonstrated many times.     A Master Gardener, her lifelong passion was gardening, spending countless hours cultivating her beautiful flower gardens as well as vegetables and fruits.   If it grew in the ground, she was the go-to expert.    Shirley loved her church community and was a longtime member of Pine City Baptist Church as well as Southside Baptist Church and Mosherville Community Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Catherine Shepard of GA, Peggy Pease of NY, and Cindy (Bob) Rajsky of NC; stepsons Alan (Giang) Short of MA, Dan Short of PA, David (Shari) Short of AL, and Christopher Short of MS; grandchildren Darcy (Patrick) Childress, Jamie (Kristy) Shepard, Sara (Stormy) Pruett, Amy Davis, Andy (Eun) Seymour, Joe Seymour, Jessica Greger, Evan Short, Alexander Short, Phillip, Steven, and Cody Tew; great grandchildren, Eric, Nik, Jack, Alek, Harper, Patrick, Finley, Jamie and Elliott; and lifelong friends Joyce Finch, Anna Mae Curren,  Jenn McWhorter, Gretchen Ham and Fran & Neal Palmer. Caregivers, Jodi Litwiler, Dawn DeRigge and Connie Judd.

The daughter of the late George W. and Louise Spencer Burt, Shirley was predeceased by her husband of more than fifty years, Willard J. Pease; second husband Alfred Short; children Linda Seymour and Willard G. “Bill” Pease; grandchildren Desi, Amber, and Katherine; sisters Mary Burt and Barbara Boyce, and dear Aunt Marion Burt.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Robert’s Funeral Home 279 Main Street Wellsburg, New York, with calling hours at 10:00 am followed by a service of remembrance at 11:00 am officiated by Reverend Arthur (Skip) Reed.   Committal service following at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Horseheads Community Animal Shelter or a charity of one’s choice.

Shirley appreciated a good joke as well as a good dessert, and enjoyed her Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream.

Shirley will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
