Walt Connis, born Wallace R. Connis on September 14, 1930, peacefully passed away on August 9, 2023, at the age of 92 in Elmira, NY. He was born in Corning, NY, and lived a long and fulfilling life. He was the loving husband of the late Clara B. (Nichols) Connis who passed away on September 15, 2021. The couple married February 28, 1976 and had 45 happy years together.
Walt was a dedicated individual who served his community with unwavering commitment. He spent 23 years as a member of the American Legion, where he made lasting connections and contributed significantly to the organization's mission.
Walt's devotion to his country was evident through his service. He was awarded National Defense Service Ribbon, embodying the values of patriotism and honor throughout his life.
Walt leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Connis, his parents, two sisters, and two brothers. Walt will be deeply missed by his surviving family and friends, including Stephen Connis, Tina Blackwell, Cheryl S. Dustin, and stepchildren Floyd R. Voorheese Sr., James W. Voorheese Sr., Nancy Voorheese, and several Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Services to honor Walt's life will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. The visitation will take place from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a family-led service. The internment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, NY.
Walt Connis will always be remembered for his dedication, love, and selflessness. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
