William “Bill” Ray Owen, Age 64, of Ridgebury Township passed away Monday, January 5, 2015, very unexpectedly at home. Bill was born June 10, 1950, son of the late Elmo “Cuffy” and Helen (McCarthy) Owen. He was a graduate of SRU High School and worked in his early years at Durabuilt and Sperry Rail.  Previous to his retirement, he was a self-employed handy man.
Perhaps he was best known for helping others in need or negotiating a deal for someone. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman.  In his earlier years he played softball for several teams and in different leagues throughout New York and PA and in his later years, played for different Senior League Teams throughout the North East. He also frequented Fraley Park Auction Center often offering his “advice on items”. He was a long time member of the Ridgebury Sportsman Club.
Survivors include his loving siblings, Jack (Ruth) Owen, Francis (Patricia) Owen, Jim (Trudy) Owen, Bob Owen, Thomas (Sally) Owen, Mary Owen and Ronnie (Lisa) Owen, aunts and uncles, John (Marge) McCarthy, Francis (Shirley) McCarthy, Paul (Ann) McCarthy, several nieces, nephews and many loving great-nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Julia Ann Owen Carrigan.
Family and friends are invited to call from 2 to 5 PM Saturday January 10, 2015 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Bill’s memorial and committal service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5 PM with Father Bryan Wright of Epiphany Parrish officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Ridgebury Township, PA.
Memorials in Bill’s name may be directed to the Ridgebury Little League, Tri-County Ambulance Assoc. or the Ridgebury Volunteer Fire Department.
