Wilson E. "Pete" Elston, Jr.

Wilson E. “Pete” Elston, Jr., 84, of Chemung, NY, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Greta L. (Clark) Elston who passed away on April 15, 2017. The couple married August 26, 1961 and had 55 happy years together.

Pete was born on May 14, 1939 in Elmira, son of the late Wilson E. and Mary (Bridgeman) Elston, Sr. He was a graduate of South Side High School, was a US Army National Guard veteran, and worked for many years for NYSDOT Highway Department where he retired as a Road Foreman. Pete enjoyed hunting and fishing, racing stockcars at Chemung Speedrome, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church.

Pete is survived by his sons Douglas (Candice) Elston and Richard (Tawny) Elston of Waverly, NY, 8 grandchildren,3 great grandchildren, sisters Frances Amey and Susan Elston, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Greta.

Family and friends are welcome to gather from 12:00-2:00 PM on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street Wellsburg, NY. The service to honor Pete’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on June 9th at the funeral home with Pastor Nathaniel McCullum officiating.  Burial will follow in Chemung Cemetery.
